Understanding Children’s Problem-solving Strategies in Solving Game-based Logic Problems

Problem solving is an essential skill for students to be successful in life and careers. Students need use efficient strategies solve problems effectively. In this basic interpretive qualitative study, we aimed (a) explore children’s problem-solving a game-based tool (i.e., puzzles), (b) investigate the troubleshooting they employed while puzzles. We recorded students’ puzzle-solving efforts, using observation analysis approach, noted important moments, patterns puzzle-solving, methods, other noteworthy events. Our showed that computer-based puzzles, demonstrated of three approaches: varying-one-thing-at-a-time (VOTAT), building all-at-once or change-all (CA), mixed approach. CA was approach used most often, followed by VOTAT, then Of two approaches, starting sequence over preferred method. Others opted search faulty tile sequence. discuss how these findings can inform practice provide some insights as usefulness tool, Lightbot.
